The December 5 2009 Storm

Before we had our major storms we had some practice storms.

We had a warm November and in addition, our house is on a little slope and we tend to escape some killing frosts that catch the yards only 5 or so houses away.

Anyway, the cosmos plant and the purple coneflower still had flowers on it. Then on Dec 5 we got a bit of snow.

The flowers were partly buried and partly not buried.

The crepe myrtle held the snow pretty nicely.

The Snowapocalypse Dec 19 2009

Here are some of the images after the December 19, 2009 event.

The first is a close up of the yew trees in the backyard covered with snow.

The second shows the yew trees hold the snow way better than the azaleas.

The third shows my shovel against the pile of snow at the west side of the driveway. I had a service do most of the shoveling and I was tired even though I had only done the sidewalk.

The next image shows the sidewalk before shoveling.

The next image shows the driveway after shoveling and after the cars were cleaned - note the bamboo behind the driveway hadn't started bending over the cars - that came later.

The next image is of the backyard as seen from our Florida room.

The last image is of the backyard as seen from near the lawn chairs.

After Feb 5-6 2010 storm (Snowmaggedon)

First image is of sidewalk looking east from our neighbor to the west.

Second image shows the trees from the groundview.

Next image shows where my sidewalk stopped and my neighbor's began (a company did his shoveling the next day and it actually looked better than mine).

Next image shows what the house looked like from the street - after a plow had come by.

Last image shows what a tree in the backyard looked like having been bent to the ground by the snow.

After Feb 9-10 Storm (Snowverkill)

After the Feb 9, 2010 storm we had about 30 to 40 inches of snow on the ground.

The first image is after my first shoveling the walk episode. The view is facing east and you can see there is some damage to the magnolia tree. You can also see that the level of the snow is almost as high as the windows of the cars.

The Feb 9 storm began to take a toll on the bamboo trees. It didn't harm them but bent them over so they were on top of our cars. This is shown in the next image.

The next image shows what a sidewalk looks like after shoveling the Feb 5 storm and before shoveling the Feb 9 storm.

The next image shows the post Feb 9 view of the front yard.

Then there is an image showing how narrow Postoak has become after successive plowings. The street has about twice as much pavement as shown.

The next three images are of some tree damage to my neighbor's tree. The first shows the initial damage. The second shows the branch beginning to come down on its own. The final image shows a tree company removing the branch.

Stuffed animal Observers of the Storm

These show our stuffed animals observing the snow.

The first shows the Coke Bear family. They enjoyed it.

The second shows UGA in the snow. He had his usual question about the snow.

The next shows Graduation Bear pondering the storm.

The last image shows our alligator looking out the window. Being a near tropical animal, he didn't want to go out

Beth's favorite image of the winter

Beth liked this picture. It was taken about Feb 12 or so after we had some melting and refreezing of the huge snowpack on the roof.

The image is from our Florida room to the backyard and shows some huge icicles. The one on the right was probably about 5 or 6 feet long.
